Actel and Fruits de Ponent partners definitively approval the new joint venture

1 de March de 2024

The general meetings of the members of the Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group and Actel Grup cooperatives, held today, have unanimously ratified the creation of a joint company, with the two organisations having an equal participation of 50%. This agreement culminates a year-long joint effort and marks the definitive step in the creation of Novacoop Mediterranea, the new agri-food company that brings together the spirit of the cooperative with the wealth of Mediterranean agricultural production.

Today Novacoop Mediterranea begins its trajectory with the formation, in the coming weeks, of its board of directors, made up of members of the two founding cooperatives, and other key aspects of the company’s operation thereafter.

What is Novacoop Mediterranea?

Actel and Fruits de Ponent have spent over a year creating the joint company with a legal structure of Limited Liability Company (SL), responsible for managing daily operations related to fruit, oil, nuts, member services and energy. This strategic decision arises from a deep joint reflection and consideration of the situation that the sector is currently experiencing, including a high concentration of actors in the agri-food chain and the decisive changes in agricultural production caused by the climate emergency.

This collaboration seeks, within the framework of sustainable development, to optimise the profitability of member farms through a more efficient transformation and marketing of agricultural products. In addition, it proposes to collectively address current high investment needs.

Strategic Alliance for a comprehensive service and new business opportunities

Novacoop Mediterranea will seek the optimisation of existing activities and aspires to provide a comprehensive service to the general public. It will also seek new business opportunities, with particular focus on areas such as energy and field work support with staff for producing members, and others.

The cooperative principles shared between Fruits de Ponent and Actel mean that this business initiative is deeply rooted in the territory and is in service of the wider society. It should be noted that this union does not imply a merger, since the two cooperatives, Fruits de Ponent and Actel, will continue to maintain their own autonomy and business activity.
