Benjamí Ibars Vitores, partner at Camp d’Alcarràs i Secció de Crèdit, has been elected the new president of Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group, SCCL. Ibars replaces Sebastià Escarp i Tomàs, who has held the presidency for the last eight years, a term established in the Statutes of Camp d’Alcarràs i Secció de Crèdit, First Grade Cooperative of Fruits de Ponent Cooperative.
The appointment became effective this thursday, december 16, after the corresponding governing councils were held this week. First, that of Camp d’Alcarràs i Secció de Crèdit –of which Ibars is a partner and where he was unanimously proposed in this position–, and later, that of Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group, who ratified it, also by unanimous agreement.
From Alcarràs, 52, married and with a son and a daughter, Benjamí Ibars Vitores has always maintained a close relationship with the Camp d’Alcarràs i Secció de Crèdit cooperative, and therefore with the Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group. First as a grassroots member – from a family already cooperative – and later occupying representative positions on the Governing Council, as he did today, since he was the head of the Fruit Section.
Ibars wanted to thank the president of the Grup Cooperatiu, Sebastià Escarp, for his dedication and dedication to the Cooperative during this period, encouraging him, as a partner that he is, to continue contributing his experience to the group.
With a turnover of 60 million euros, Grup Cooperatiu Fruits de Ponent has four 1st Grade cooperatives: Camp d’Alcarràs i Secció de Crèdit, Agrària Progresiva Benavent-La Portella, Ramell and Agrària del Llobregós. Formed by some 180 family units of partners (comprising several generations), the group is characterized by being one of the leaders in Europe in the production and marketing of stone fruit, as well as other business units that over the last few years years it has been unfolding, like nuts and cereals; the extra virgin olive oil, with the Molí d’Alcanó; two fuel service stations and electric stations; a network with agro-stores in Alcarràs, Alcanó and Ponts; and a credit section that contributes to promoting the agricultural activity of its members.
In recent years, Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group has focused its activity on sustainability understood from an environmental, economic and social point of view, establishing itself as a cooperative ecosystem.
