The Grup Cooperatiu Fruits de Ponent held a Solidarity Party on Sunday, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the group, which began at 9 am with a blood donation in the same facilities. The Blood and Tissue Bank of the Arnau Hospital collected 80 donations, and with both donations and offerings more than a hundred were reached.
The day continued with a solidarity breakfast and exhibitions of music by the group El Calaix de Maria, made up of youths from the Alcarrás Music Hall and an exhibition from the Rhythmic Gymnastics Club of Alcarrás. There were also wooden toys for children…
Subsequently a lunch was held for members, workers and families. The meeting was attended by the television personality Quim Masferrer, who put a note of humour in the meal, vindicating, yes, the role of the farmer and the work he does.
Fruits de Ponent is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017, having become, in the words of its president, Sebastià Escarp, a leading company in Europe in stone fruit with a quality product and adapting itself to the times. Escarp praised the members and farmers who, despite the many difficulties that now exist in the sector, are and will be the “engine” of the Cooperative Group. The event was also attended by the Mayor of Alcarràs, Miquel Serra, who applauded the values of social responsibility and the cooperative values practised by Fruits de Ponent and the importance that this company plays in the municipality of Alcarràs.
