The Government of Catalonia, announcing these awards for the second year, has highlighted the company’s social values and push for the cooperative movement and sustainability
The Department of Business and Employment of the Government of Catalonia has selected the Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group, based in Alcarràs, Lleida, as one of the four finalist companies pursuing recognition from Business Day 2023. The Government has stressed the Cooperative Group’s social facet, as well as its defence of cooperative values and push for sustainability from the economic, social and environmental points of view.
According to its General Manager, Josep Presseguer, “the Group works as an ecosystem which guarantees the viability of its business pursuits, ensures the professional development of its workers, and strives to offer quality products to clients and consumers, safeguarding the sustainability of the cooperative’s local area, people and economy”.
Fruits de Ponent, the only cooperative among the four finalists, is a Group comprised of 180 family units of member producers, with a staff of 120 permanent employees and 400 in the summer season. The Group’s activity revolves around the production and sale of Mediterranean foods, including stone and seed fruit, extra virgin olive oil, cereal crops and almonds. In addition, it runs three farm shops and services aimed at the agricultural advancement of its members. Fruits de Ponent bases its decision-making on a system of cooperative governance formed by a steering committee, elected by the members and renewed every four years.
In recent years, the Group has made the leap toward eco-friendly power, aiming for its entire industrial process to run solely on green energy and to generate an energy community among its associates. Moreover, it uses packages with recycled or reusable material and its roadmap contains projects in circular economy, in the sense of generating organic fertilisers for the field using livestock dejections.

To vote, click on the link and select an option, entering your mobile phone number. You will receive a code via text message, which you must provide to prevent voting fraud.
