The headquarters of the Fruits de Ponent Cooperative Group has been selected as the place for the leaders of the main Spanish companies from different sectors to meet and work together in favour of corporate sustainability.
The United Nations Global Compact leads corporate sustainability throughout the world with 1470 associated entities, of which 258 are Catalan and 9 from Lleida.
The meeting was used to address various topics surrounding the implementation of sustainable criteria in companies and in the food production sector. One of the most urgent challenges is how to face the water shortage and climate emergency.
The president of the Spanish Network, Clara Arpa, called out for more companies from the Lleida region’s ‘agro’ sector to join this global cause, promoted by the United Nations, as many are already working diligently for planetary sustainability.
In turn, the general manager of Fruits de Ponent, Josep Presseguer, pointed out that we work to reduce our use of materials like wood, nonrecyclable plastic and paper and to manage water more sustainably. We also use 100% renewable energy through solar panels.
The summit allowed its participants to delve further into the goals of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact and gain a close introduction to the business model and facilities of Fruits de Ponent. The next meeting of this global network is scheduled for 14 June in Madrid with the participation of more than 700 companies from all over Spain.
